Four years ago I started a company with a name I loved. Today I'm letting it go. And it feels strange, exciting, and right all at once.
The name was Binqy. And once you got used to it, it worked. But that 'once you got used to it' was exactly the problem.
Internationally, 'Binqy' evokes a pacifier. In Dutch, more of a tough little kid. Not exactly the image you have in mind when you're building a solution for burnout, engagement, and helping managers better understand their teams.
We knew it for a while. We just needed the courage to act on it.
What we built was serious. A platform that lets organisations truly listen to their people, at every level. HR, managers, employees. From awareness to action. The name needed to reflect that.
We were looking for a name that described what we do, that conveyed responsibility towards our customers and users, but was also playful enough to spark enthusiasm. It needed to appeal to both employers and employees, nationally and internationally.
Well Aware was the name that stuck with almost everyone immediately. That's rare. But more than that, it means something. Being well-aware, at every level of your organisation, is always the first step before anything can actually change. Before a manager can help, before HR can intervene, before a company can improve. You have to listen first.
That's what we've been building since day one.
The companies we work with all share one thing: they believe people are their most important asset. Not as a poster on the wall, but as a real conviction. Those are our people. And Well Aware was built for them.
A neutral, independent place with no agenda other than one: making sure employees feel heard and understood. Because when that happens, engagement and better results will follow naturally.
The name changes. The brand changes. But the mission stays exactly the same: building people-first companies by helping organisations listen even more effectively.
What also doesn't change is our team. I am incredibly proud of the people who made this happen. Together we've built something I believe in.
So: goodbye Binqy. It's been a great ride.
