THE CHANGING ROLE

You are an expert in your field. And recently, a people manager too.

More and more is expected of managers. Not only delivering quality in your own area of expertise, but also being a coach, a mental-health champion, and a retention driver. For no one is that a separately learned profession. For no one is that business as usual.

WHAT YOU WERE TRAINED FOR

Your specialization

Depth in your field of expertise

Delivering results and outcomes

Managing teams for output

Making technical decisions

Serving clients and stakeholders

WHATEVER ELSE COMES YOUR WAY

Being a people manager.

Identifying well-being signals early

Driving retention and predicting turnover

Creating psychological safety

Conducting meaningful 1-on-1s

DEI, culture, and continuous feedback

This is where we come in

Well Aware handles the second part for you. Data, conversation starters, and a coach for when things get to be too much. So you can remain an expert in your field, while your team feels the difference.

THE NUMBERS ARE STARK

Your blind spot as a manager

Research consistently shows: managers overestimate how well things are going, miss signs of turnover, and hold 1-on-1s that avoid the essentials. Not because you are bad at your job, but because you are working without data.

72%

of managers overestimate how satisfied their team is

Manager assessments are, on average, 27% more positive than what employees report themselves.

of departures come as a surprise to the manager

Meanwhile, the employee has been seriously considering leaving for an average of four months before the conversation even takes place.

is the average duration of a 1-on-1. Of which 8 minutes are spent on project status.

The time available for discussing workload, growth, or personal well-being is limited to just four minutes per conversation.

This is not a criticism. This is the reality in which almost every manager operates

INTERACTIVE SELF-ASSESSMENT

How well do you really know your team?

Three statements most managers never ask themselves.

01

I know exactly which team member was lying awake at three in the morning and why.

WHAT RESEARCH SHOWS

Work-related stress is the number one cause of occupational illness in the Netherlands. Over 1.3 million employees experience burnout symptoms. Sleep problems are often the first sign, appearing three to six months before burnout, yet in the majority of cases, they remain undiscussed between employee and manager.

TNO and CBS, National Working Conditions Survey 2024

02

I know which team member didn't tell me something important this week.

WHAT RESEARCH SHOWS

42% of employees intentionally withhold information from their manager, often out of fear of consequences or because they don't think it will make a difference. Managers consistently estimate this percentage to be three times lower than it actually is. And the longer a manager has been in the role, the wider that gap becomes.

Harvard Business Review, "The Fearless Organization" research, 2023

03

I can tell the difference between "busy" and "over the edge" for my team members.

WHAT RESEARCH SHOWS

According to the managers involved, 76% of burnout cases came as a "surprise." In three-quarters of those cases, the warning signs were visible in team data six to eight weeks earlier, but were dismissed by the manager as temporary busyness.

MANAGEMENT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY

Your role as a manager has a greater impact on your employee's well-being than you might think

Not everything fits into a 1-on-1 with your manager. And not every feeling belongs at office drinks. But if you bottle it up, it builds until it affects both your work and your private life.

01
It is hard to know exactly what is going on

As a manager, there is often a barrier to sharing sensitive information. It is difficult for you to know what is really going on, and it is hard for your team members to share how they feel. Well Aware solves this by providing both you and your team members with concrete tools.

02
1-on-1s remain superficial

With the insights in your Well Aware dashboard, you have a much clearer picture of what is going on and can ask targeted questions during your meetings with team members, allowing you to dive deeper and making your team members feel more heard.

03
HR gets detailed reports, but you are left behind

Not with Well Aware: our real-time dashboarding, reporting, and analytics keep you just as close to the action while saving you significant time in keeping your team happy, productive, and satisfied.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about our platform

Can I see who answered what?

No, and that is by design. Team results are only visible with a minimum of 5 respondents and are always aggregated. This protects both your team members and you—you can never be accused of favoritism or retaliation. Anonymity is what makes honest feedback possible.

What if my team is too small for anonymity (< 5 people)?

For teams of fewer than 5 people, results are aggregated at a higher organizational level—for example, at the department or location level. You will see trends, but not small-team data. For small teams, we recommend focusing on the AI conversation starters and open team meetings.

How much time will this take me per week?

On average, 5 minutes per week for the weekly snapshot. If you actively use the AI conversation starters for 1-on-1s, you can add another 5-10 minutes. There is no mandatory weekly reporting and no separate tooling. It fits right into your existing management rhythm.

What if HR wants to see my dashboard?

HR can see organizational data (department, location, entire organization), but not your specific team dashboard without your consent. This is a deliberate design choice: you are primarily responsible for your team, so you receive the insights first. The quarterly session with HR is a collaborative moment, not a surveillance tool.

How do you support managers during implementation?

Every new manager receives a 90-minute onboarding session with a Well-Aware specialist. This is followed by quarterly sessions with HR and your Well-Aware customer success specialist. You also get access to the online manager library and the AI coach for ad-hoc questions.
